The transition from green foliage to an explosion of color never ceases to be an amazing event. Come celebrate the season photographically in Door County's preserved natural spaces and wild places in juxtaposition with agrarian and iconic architecture.

Daily field trips, starting early, to take advantage of the natural elements in soft light - from artfully seeing color reflected on water to majestic stands of noble maples displaying their glorious golds, oranges and reds. In the diverse landscape of the county - from endless shoreline, open farmland to dense woods - all will be explored so each participant can celebrate the grand vista as much as study the details. We will visit my favorite sites from Sturgeon bay all the way up to Washington & Rock Islands.

Classroom time will be a part of this workshop - discussing the power of intention and purpose through mindful composition techniques to post-processing and printing.

To many, black & white images are the very definition of fine art photography.

Through an intensive five-day study, please join me on a timeless journey into my personal photographic workflow making museum quality prints. From capture to conversion, discover the modern skills in making a beautiful monochrome photograph that can rival a darkroom-generated silver gelatin print.

Key elements of RAW conversion, color management, a multitude of black & white conversion methods and printmaking will be demystified. The art & craft of a solid workflow will be presented on a big screen daily then the class will ease into productive studio time to work through your files and print. An open evening studio will be offered to dive deeper into your work for one-on-one time to trouble-shoot, target special issues and prepare files to print.

In the classroom, partake in a disciplined post-processing workflow that will take RAW color captures to mindful monochrome. This concentrated study will wrap color in a monochromatic blanket of emotional intent so that only mood, metaphor and poetry remain.

Processing and printing high quality images will be the goal of this workshop. Print on a choice of Epson's UltraSmooth Fine Art, Velvet Fine Art, Hot Press Bright or Exhibition Fiber papers with an Epson printer using the Advanced Black & White print driver developed by Epson to bring out the deepest blacks for monochrome prints.

The exceptionally low student-to-teacher ratio provides the perfect setting to dive into a productive and fulfilling experience with loads of individual attention every step of the way.

Who should attend:

Open to all levels of photographic experience but best suited to photographers that have RAW captures and have solidly honed basic to intermediate skills in Photoshop & Lightroom.

Required Equipment:

A laptop, a print box to transport 13" x 19" prints and a panel of actions to be purchased from an outside source for $35.

Workshop Details and Logistics:

Please arrive with a laptop with Lightroom 6 or CC and Photoshop CS6 or CC, TK V4 or V5 panel plugin, NIK collection plugin, 3 to 5 workable files (RAW) and 8 to 10 images to introduce yourself photographically (prints or digital files on own device.) A complete supply list with links for software and workshop details will be sent upon registration.

Technical:

A prep package will be sent via email in advance to refresh basic skills in Photoshop that are needed to successfully navigate the digital terrain and a fine art workflow. My special Photoshop actions will be included with the 100+ page handbook provided on the first day of the workshop. These six complex actions are custom designed to expedite a fine art workflow making the following almost effortless: color management, upsampleing, sharpening and preparing a professional quality print file.
